Membership

The Southern Gospel Music Association (SGMA) was formed in 1994. It is a professional preservation association of artists, songwriters, industry workers and fans. Our primary goal is to preserve, protect and promote Southern Gospel Music, its history and heritage.

The SGMA is a private, non-profit corporation with a board of directors selected from artists, industry participants and others, whose job is to oversee the activities of the business and make sure the stated purpose of the organization is fulfilled. The day to day affairs are managed by an executive director.

The Southern Gospel Music Association is dedicated to keeping the accomplishments of the early pioneers alive.

The SGMA operates a Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where over one million visitors per year come through the facility to read and visually observe displays and memorabilia from a century of gospel music. Thousands of items from some of the greatest singers, writers and musicians are housed here. Also, a gift shop is located within the museum which carries one of the largest selections of Southern Gospel Music of any store in the country.

The nomination and selection of deserving individuals to the Hall of Fame falls under the SGMA's direction and responsibility. Once selected, these highly recognized and distinguished individuals are permanently enshrined in the Hall of Fame with a plaque bearing their picture and list of accomplishments for all to see.

The artists in this industry have traveled thousands of miles, through some of the most adverse conditions imaginable to entertain, minister and create a musical genre for which the SGMA is totally committed to preserving.
