A Letter from Karen Peck Gooch
October 16, 2006
Hey Charlie,
Thank you so much for all you have done for the SGMA. The Hall of Fame Inductee Ceremony at Dollywood was absolutely wonderful. I know I say this every year, but this year’s program was better than ever. I sat in amazement of how you captured those “special” moments of our heroes on camera. Jimmy Jones died a few days after his interview. I’m so thankful that God has given you the passion and heart for preserving our heritage. You have spent your life taking the time to interview the artists and record their concerts. The footage you have of the early TV shows and commercials from the 1950’s and 1960’s are absolutely priceless.
I laughed and I cried. After the ceremony I felt a sense of pride knowing that those men and women literally paved the road to help me do what I do today. They didn’t have nice buses to ride on, nice motels to take showers in, wireless microphones, ear monitors, soundtracks, CD players, instant replay, and pitch machines. (The list could go on and on.)
I realize that I have the same love and passion to sing Gospel Music as my heroes once had. I count it an honor and privilege to be associated with such great people. I thank the Lord for allowing me to live my dream…to sing Gospel Music.
Blessings,
Karen Peck Gooch
