Charlie Waller Appointed
Director of
SGMA and Hall of Fame
Longtime promoter, producer, and gospel music historian Charlie Waller has been appointed Executive Director for the Southern Gospel Music Association and Hall of Fame, effective February 1.
Waller's duties will include overseeing all aspects of the Southern Gospel Music Association including staffing and administration, museum artifacts and sales, among other duties. Reporting to the SGMA's 21-member Board of Directors, he will work with them to shape and create a continuing prestigious and proud Hall of Fame and Museum at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN.
"Waller brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the position and will be a tremendous asset to the organization going forward. His past work has provided him with detailed knowledge of the many challenges and opportunities the Southern Music Association will face in the future, says Maurice Templeton, current President of the Board of Directors.
"I'm thrilled to have an individual of Charlie's caliber coming in as the next Executive Director for the Southern Gospel Music Association," adds Templeton. "He is a dedicated and passionate leader who presents a clear vision of the promise and opportunities for the history of our music. I have no doubt he will raise the profile of the SGMA and Hall of Fame."
A 31-year industry veteran, Waller has been in radio, TV production and currently promotes and produces the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion in Greenville, SC. He has served on numerous boards and committees within our industry as well. He also produced the 2004 SGMA Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony and received rave reviews for his efforts.
Waller says, "Celebrated artists, songwriters, musicians, promoters, broadcasters, music executives, publishers and more of past, present, and future of our industry will someday be recognized for their efforts and enduring times. The SGMA Hall of Fame and Museum will be a place where their earthly contributions can be honored with pride and dignity so deserving to each of them. This opportunity is a career milestone for me, and I'm ready to work hard to help advance the Association to the next levels."
